- From Robert L. Winder, July 2007: LABAN D. WINDER, Born Apr 1835 in Ohio
Moved to Jackson Township, Green County, Indiana, with his family prior to 1850, and was living there with his parents (Henderson Winder & Charity Meek), as recorded in the US Census for those years. In 1880 the census found him living in Meade County, Kansas, occupation farmer, single, with his sister, Emma (Emaline), whose married name was Galusha, with her two children, both of whom were born in Colorado.
Before Census time in 1900, Laban had left Kansas and had moved to Pasadena, California, where he lived on Wilson Avenue, renting a house. His occupation was "miner". His wife is listed in the 1900 census as Anna C. Winder, born in December of 1858 in Indiana. Her parents had both been born in Germany. Laban and Anna were married about 1885, and Anaa C. had had one child, who was still living. This child was also listed with them in 1900 as Roy B. Winder, who had been born in California in October 1887, and who was in school. The family had a boarder in the household, Ella Rice, single, born in July of 1874 in Mississippi.
By 1910, Laban , Anna and Roy had moved to 521 Howard Street in Covina, CA, where Laban had gone into business as operating an orange grove, and Roy's occupation was shown as a self-employed electrician doing house wiring. Laban and Anna C. Winder have not been found in any census records after 1910.
The 1920 census records, at 171 Cottage Drive in Covina, CA, Roy Winder, owner of an electrical shop, with his wife, Jeanette, 29 years old, and born in Nebraska to parents who immigrated from Denmark. There are two children in the family: Roy B., Jr., 3 years old and Donald K., 7 months old. This same family unit is 1930 is listed at 174 West Orange Street, in Covina, CA. Roy B. Winder, head of household at that time was an Electrical Contractor doing wiring. Roy was NOT a veteran of the military services of the United States.
Is there someone in California in the Los Angeles area who might be interested in tracing Roy B. Winder, Jr. and Donald K. Winder from 1930 to the present ?
