Winder is of the age of 17 years but by reason of impediment of speech has received no education, and cannot choose a guardian intelligently;... Petition to the Superior Court of the state of Washington for the county of Columbia, 28 Aug 1922: Your petitioner Mary E. Winder represents that Charles V. Winder is a feebleminded person who is incompetent to be at large and whose family cannot provide suitable training, protection and care. Therefore your petitioner prays the Court to commit the said person to the State Custodial School... Newspaper, Dayton, Columbia Co, WA 23 Jun 1953 (transcribed by Liz Carson): Charles Winder Buried Here Family graveside services were held Tuesday afternoon in the Dayton cemetery for Charles Boorkees Winder, a former resident who for the past 30 years had resided in the Spokane area. Born in Dayton, July 20, 1890, Mr. Winder died June 21, 1953, leaving these survivors: a brother, Frank Winder of Dayton, three sisters, Mrs. Alice Arnett, of Spokane, Mrs. Lulu (George W.) Wood of Bellflower, California, Mrs. Edna (J.W.) Stephens of Walla Walla, and several nieces and nephews. (Research):Vorhees was a prominent name in the area, and Charles was probably named for them.
