He [Robert L. Winder] is trying to help Bill Wallace. His first effort has been to pin down who he has records on --Earhart and Samuel. He mentioned a Samuel Winder who died in Fayette County, PA in 1855 who was born in Bullitt County KY in 1802. He was a school director in German Township (in PA, I think). Anyway, got me to wondering if this Samuel might be German.

241 (Research):From Bill Taken Apr 2014:
Lucy's place of birth (1800) was consistently NY for 1850, 1860 and 1870. Her sister Sally (1801) showed PA in the1850 census. Brother (I believe) William (1793) is listed as NY in 1850 census. Brother (I believe) John (1786) is listed as PA in 1850 census. I have not really dug into the Taylor's yet, and will after I am done with the current generation of James' offspring. If these are "accurate", John Taylor may have moved back and forth between the states before he settled down.

For census records we have:
1) Letitia 1880 - James PA Lucy PA
" 1900 - " OH " PA
2) George 1880 - " PA " NY
" 1900 - " PA " NY
3) Joshua 1880 - " IN " IN
4) John 1880 - " VA " PA
" 1900 - " NY " KY

Note that Lucy, Joshua and John were illiterate.

According to Bill Johns (Aug 1999):
A James Winders, b. abt. 1785, is listed in the 1820 census of Perry Township, Licking County, OH (note: Fallsbury Twp. was formed from the northern part of Perry Twp. in 1826)...

This James Winders according to the book, "Fallsbury Township, Licking County, Ohio - The First Settlers, (1815-1830)" by Gary Finckel, 20 Nov. 1990, married Lucy Taylor, d/o John Taylor Sr. and wife, Freelove (last name unknown). John Taylor resided just north of Fallsbury Twp, Licking County, OH in Coshocton County. Lucy Winders is named as a daughter in John Taylor Sr.'s will dated 17 March, 1824 and probated 4 Nov., 1824 in Coshocton County, OH. James Winders and the John Taylor family came from Pennsylvania according to Mr. Finckel. James Winder is not in the 1830 census of Licking County but according to Mr. Finckel's book he paid personal property taxes in 1833. Mr. Finckel states that Henderson Winders is the son of this James Winders. James Winders either died in the 1830's or left the area.

Also according to Bill Johns:
In regards as to whether I have documentation supporting the fact that James Winders who married Lucy Taylor and according to Mr. Finckel is the father of Henderson Winder, NO, I do not. I have never met Mr. Finckel and do not know if he has some documentation or not. Some supportive evidence is the fact that James Winders and Henderson Winder were in the same area of Licking County (Fallsbury Twp.); the fact that the Will Abstact for John Taylor of Coshocton County names a daughter, Lucy Winders; copies of records of the Justice of the Peace Docket for Fallsbury Township from 26 Nov., 1845 to 06 Dec., 1847 and found several mentions of H. and Henderson Winder(s). One of these records is a suit of Severs & Buxton vs. John Winder and Henderson Winder. One of these JP Dockets pertains to Peter Shrake, son of George and Mary (Winders) Shrake, in which H. Winder is served a subpoena to appear as a witness.
WINDERS, James (I111)

242 (Research):From Bill Taken Apr 2014: I have found "hooks" for all of the children found to date of James with the exception of Thomas which you have convincingly tied to James via DNA and his marriage location.

I don't have better Henderson information but will summarize the Henderson hooks:

1) 1) We have Lucy's daughter Margaret Jane in the 01/02 Oct 1850 census of 1850 with Lucy and Chancy White shown as Jane. She also appeared with Alpheus in his 10 Sep 1850 census listed as Margaret. This plus the reference you state is in Alpheus' Civil War pension file mentions Henderson ties the three together.

2) 2) George Winder was the administrator of Henderson's will in 1865. The only other George Winder in the area would be Henderson's son but he was not yet 17 at the time so it must be the brother George Washington Winder.

3) 3) There is a Justice of the Peace Docket in Fallsbury Twp, Licking Co, 1846/47 that lists a suit with brothers John Winder and Henderson Winder on one side of the suit.

4) 4) Once again, Henderson fits into the 1820 census of James and Lucy.

I will give you my nickels worth on the whole subject of James, Lucinda and another wife for James.

I believe Lucy's birth year is 1800 not 1803.

1) 1) You have restated the issue of the census data of 1820 and 1840. This places her age at no later than 1800.

2) 2) As you know, the ages people gave can vary quite a bit and as Lucinda was married to someone a little younger, she may have fudged it a little: 1800-1801 census of 1850; 1802-1803 census of 1860; and 1802-1803 census of 1870. We also don't know who talked to the census taker.

3) 3) The will of John Taylor lists his children in order of their ages with Lucinda after Rebecca (b ~1796) and before Sarah (b 05 Sep 1801).

As stated previously, the 20 Apl 1813 marriage date noted for James and Lucinda was actually for a James and Catrine Harshman.

I don't believe we have any concrete age on Thomas \endash ~1818 census of 1850; ~1816 census of 1856; ~1814 census of 1860 so he could fall on either side of James' two marriages. In any event there appears to be a gap between Henderson (b ~1813)/ Thomas if b 1814 and John b Jun 1821. This could reflect James' first wife dying during childbirth.

As James would have had small children after his first wife's death, he very likely would have remarried within the year of his first wife's death. If Lucinda was James' second wife, as the evidence to date says to me, Henderson (b 1813) and Thomas (b 1814) would have been two of these small children when they married before the 1820 census. Henderson and Thomas would have considered Lucinda their mother.

243 (Research):From Bonnie Willacker, Jan 2015:
In the Will of Thomas Winder, dated June 30, 1815 states that Eleanor Rose is a " brown woman who now lives with me". He also writes that Ann Winder, now in England, is the daughter of Eleanor Rose.
ROSE, Eleanor (I26477)

244 (Research):From Carrissa Wynder-Sanchez, Apr 2014:
The story in the family is that Maria was adopted by the Washington Family. Her father was James but was adopted out. On the 1880 Census record I have it is notated that she is "Adopted Daughter". Through Ancestry.com a DNA match was made with Sallie Winder's (1882-1923) descendants in Georgia that confirmed that Maria and Sallie were siblings and daughters of the same James Winder. Precilla is not a Winder connection it is Maria and James (b.1818)

246 (Research):From Deven 9/15/2012
William Holobaugh Rogers had contacted me about a possible connection between our line and Elizabeth's father, who he thought might be a "John" or "Patton" Winders. I now suspect Elizabeth's father was "«u»John P. Winders«/u»" (born c. 1781-1790, d. c. 1840-1850). My reasoning is based on a John P. Winders being the executor of the 1833 estate of a Faithy Park/Parks/Parke; the will and index (found at familysearch.org), does show the devisees of the Faithy Park estate (I believe this is the list from which William developed his list of siblings of Elizabeth):
Index of Wills, Rowan County, NC:
1833 - Devisor: Faithy Parks
Devisees (beneficiaries):
John Adams Winders
Henry Hampton Winders
William Washington Winders
Naomi Winders (married John Park)
Chambers Nesbit Winders (family history says he died as a child; however, I find a Chambers Winders in a Rowan land transaction in 1843)
Elizabeth Ann Winders (married David Green Holobaugh)
Martha (Locke?) Winders (Could be the Patsy Winders who married John Gibbens who is referenced in the Faithy Parks estate accounting)
Mary Elvira Winders (married William Taylor Dent)
Rial Thomas Winders (Rail?)
In the will "John P. Winders" is referenced as Faithy's "friend" and is appointed as her executor. In the 1830 census for Davidson Co., NC (Davidson was created from Rowan in 1822), the John P. Winders household is listed directly below a Faithy Park household which was mistranscribed as "Parker". Faithy was one of the two elderly women in that household; the John P. Winders household contains children who could be those listed as the Park devisees, including Elizabeth. The family history is that some of the Winders moved into Shelby Co., TN around 1836, where marriages of some of the children occurred; in fact, I do find a John P. Winders there in the 1840 census, the right age; I lose John after that. The Winders, Parks, Dents and Gibbens show up in one another's early records for Rowan Co., NC (particularly Salisbury records). It may be that Faithy Parks was Faithy Winders Parks, a daughter of Adam Winders, thus John P. Winders' aunt. However, the reference in Faithy's will to John as her "friend" is peculiar if this were the case.

No record has been found to positively identify John P. Winders as a son of Epenetus Winders and Fanny Chambers. However, records of the Winders of Rowan County, North Carolina, such as estate, will, land and census records, suggest that Epenetus Winders was the first Winders to arrive in Rowan (circa 1807) and was the only Winders of an age to have been the father of the younger Winders found in the county. The naming of John's son, "Chambers" Nesbitt Winders, supports the probability that John's mother was Fanny Chambers. The crossover records, i.e., the records of John's children and the records of those we have identified as John's siblings, strongly indicate that they are all interconnected. The only child of John known to have survived into the 20th century was Mary Elvira Winders Dent, who died c. 1911. Although Mary claimed in the 1880 census that her parents were both born in North Carolina, in the 1900 census she claimed father and mother were born in Virginia and South Carolina, respectively. If John P. Winders is the son of Epenetus as we believe, the Virginia birth of John c. 1790 would be accurate; Ep and Fanny were married in Halifax County, VA in 1789 and had moved into Person County, North Carolina by the 1800 census.
WINDERS, John Patton (I20496)

247 (Research):From Deven Lewis, 2013: I believe it is George Winders and Jane Burns Winders' daughter, Elizabeth Winders, who was living in the Henry Artz household in the 1850 census in Pine Creek, Ogle County, Illinois, and that she is the Elizabeth Winders who married Nelson Tice in Ogle County on Mar 8 1852. This seems probable because (i) Hiram Winders, son of George Winders and Jane Burns Winders, married Harriet "Hattie" Tice, a sister of Nelson Tice, and (ii) in the 1860 census, Hattie and Hiram are living with Elizabeth and her second husband, John Myers. According to one «a href="http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~ilogle/johnctice.htm"»history of John C. Tice«/a» (father of Nelson and Hattie), Nelson Tice died in 1851 on the way to California. Although the 1851 death year would be an error, since Nelson Tice married Elizabeth Winders in 1852, the circumstances of his death, probably shortly after the couple had married, may explain the a widowed Elizabeth Tice marrying John H. Myers on May 21, 1857 in Ogle County. Also, according to Illinois County marriage records for Ella Myers, George Myers, and Minnie Myers at familysearch.org, these children identified their parents as John H. Myers and Elizabeth "Winders". Elizabeth apparently went to Ogle County, IL from Washington Co., MD sometime between 1840 and 1850 - Jane Burns Winders was head of household in the 1840 census for Wash Co., MD, indicating that husband George Winders had died prior to 1840; in Jane's 1840 household were two young females, one 5-9 and one 10-14. One female child has been identified as Nancy Winders, born 1834, who would be the female age 5-9. I suspect the other female, age 10-14, was Elizabeth. WINDERS, Elizabeth (I20898)
