Notes - (Research):From Bill Taken Apr 2014:
Lucy's place of birth (1800) was consistently NY for 1850, 1860 and 1870. Her sister Sally (1801) showed PA in the1850 census. Brother (I believe) William (1793) is listed as NY in 1850 census. Brother (I believe) John (1786) is listed as PA in 1850 census. I have not really dug into the Taylor's yet, and will after I am done with the current generation of James' offspring. If these are "accurate", John Taylor may have moved back and forth between the states before he settled down.
For census records we have:
1) Letitia 1880 - James PA Lucy PA
" 1900 - " OH " PA
2) George 1880 - " PA " NY
" 1900 - " PA " NY
3) Joshua 1880 - " IN " IN
4) John 1880 - " VA " PA
" 1900 - " NY " KY
Note that Lucy, Joshua and John were illiterate.
According to Bill Johns (Aug 1999):
A James Winders, b. abt. 1785, is listed in the 1820 census of Perry Township, Licking County, OH (note: Fallsbury Twp. was formed from the northern part of Perry Twp. in 1826)...
This James Winders according to the book, "Fallsbury Township, Licking County, Ohio - The First Settlers, (1815-1830)" by Gary Finckel, 20 Nov. 1990, married Lucy Taylor, d/o John Taylor Sr. and wife, Freelove (last name unknown). John Taylor resided just north of Fallsbury Twp, Licking County, OH in Coshocton County. Lucy Winders is named as a daughter in John Taylor Sr.'s will dated 17 March, 1824 and probated 4 Nov., 1824 in Coshocton County, OH. James Winders and the John Taylor family came from Pennsylvania according to Mr. Finckel. James Winder is not in the 1830 census of Licking County but according to Mr. Finckel's book he paid personal property taxes in 1833. Mr. Finckel states that Henderson Winders is the son of this James Winders. James Winders either died in the 1830's or left the area.
Also according to Bill Johns:
In regards as to whether I have documentation supporting the fact that James Winders who married Lucy Taylor and according to Mr. Finckel is the father of Henderson Winder, NO, I do not. I have never met Mr. Finckel and do not know if he has some documentation or not. Some supportive evidence is the fact that James Winders and Henderson Winder were in the same area of Licking County (Fallsbury Twp.); the fact that the Will Abstact for John Taylor of Coshocton County names a daughter, Lucy Winders; copies of records of the Justice of the Peace Docket for Fallsbury Township from 26 Nov., 1845 to 06 Dec., 1847 and found several mentions of H. and Henderson Winder(s). One of these records is a suit of Severs & Buxton vs. John Winder and Henderson Winder. One of these JP Dockets pertains to Peter Shrake, son of George and Mary (Winders) Shrake, in which H. Winder is served a subpoena to appear as a witness.
