Notes - William Sidney Winder's Will, Franklin Co, OH:
I William Sidney Winder of Groton, Baltimore County, Do make and constitute this my last Will and Testament. I give devise and bequeath unto my dear Wife, Araminta Winder, all my property Real personal and mixed to have and to hold to her and her heirs forever -- with the exception of the articles hereinafter mentioned viz: A gold or gilt trowel used by my later father Governor Levin Winder in laying the corner stones of the Washington Monument and the Masonic Hall in the City of Baltimore and a pair of epouletts worn by my father in the Revolutionary War, and these namesly, the Trowel and the Epauletts, I give and bequeath to my nephew Edward Lloyd WInder. Lastly. I give and bequeath to the Congress of the United States the camp chest of General George Washington which he used during the Revolutionary War, and which was purchased [at] the sale of his effects at Mount Vernon by Col. Wells McGruder of Annapolis and by him presented to father. It would be grateful to me and it is my desire that this chest should be presented to Congress through that venerable patriot and Sage the Honorable John Quincy Adams. In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal this seventeenth day of January __ 1844. Wm S. Winder
