Subject: Cornelius Vansant and Margaret(ta) (Vansant) Closson
What can anyone tell me about the following family? (in Bucks county and Trenton, NJ area probably)
Margaretta Vansant Closson (1796-1877, buried Slate Hill Cemetary, Yardley,PA)(married William Closson) and Cornelius Vansant(about 1809-1889, buried Riverview Cemetary, Ewing/Trenton, NJ) are siblings. I have their wills proving that my ancestor, Courtland Wilson(1822-1898), was their nephew. I am trying to find Courtland's parents and in the process anything more about these Vansants. I have deduced that his mother was a Vansant sister of Margaret and Cornelius who married an unknown Wilson prior to 1822 when Courtland was born.
All help appreciated. Below you can find the info. I have on the above mentioned Vansants.
Margaretta's will clearly stated that her brother was named Cornelius Vansant and that she had a number of neices and nephews, presumably from other sisters.
Thus, the family should have at least one sister who married a Wilson, one who married a Baker, one who married a Kulp, and one who married a Windor.
(I deduced the relationships above from her list of relatives: Mary Ann Baker and Sarah Kulp- nieces, James Windor-nephew,and her late husband's niece Jane McGarvey. Also her cousin Fannie Walker, wife of Benjamin Walker of Philadelphia.)
Several leads: Susan Vansant marries Thomas Winder The marriage announcement- info.Daily True American, Trenton, NJ 7/10/1820 p.3 reel #1270. It reads, "MARRIED, in this city, on the 4th inst. by Isreal Taylor Esq., MR. THOMAS WINDER to Miss SUSAN VANZANT,
all of Bucks County, Pennsylvania.
Also, I found a marriage record in the Trenton paper in 1819 for a Steward Wilson and Ann Vansant in Lamberton, NJ, and it says they were both from Bucks county. married by Mott. These could be Courtland's parents, but I have nothing to go on for proof.
However, there may be Quaker connections as well. Margaretta Vansant Closson left money to the Trenton, NJ Hicksite meeting in her will.
