Subject: William McFarland of Va & Ky & Tn
I descend from Wm McFarland (McFarlin) born abt 1784 in Va. He married Nancy Winders in Jan 1808 Ky. And thru their daughter Tabitha Jane McFarland born 1822 and married James Griffin in Tn. Are there others working on this line?
Notes by Johnny Walker (Jun 2002):
01 Jul 1803, Christian Co., Kentucky, William McFarland married Patsy Robinson. Bondsman: Benj. McClendon. Teste: Edw. Bradshaw. Could this be a previous marriage of the same William who married Nancy Winders? Or is this another William who appears with only a wife and no children in the 1810 census of Christian Co., Kentucky, p. 67?
04 Oct 1804, Muhlenberg Co., Kentucky, Bk. 5, p. 208, William McFarland received a land grant of 50 acres on Cypress Creek. (Kentucky Land Grants, Jillson). This was a grant south of the Green River. To be eligible for these grants the applicant was supposed to be over 21 years old and have lived on the land for at least one year. Note that William did not actually turn 21 until 16 Oct 1804.
Jan 1808, Muhlenberg Co., Kentucky, William McFarland married Nancy Winders.

This regiment rendez-voused at Newport, Kentucky, commanded by Lt. Col. Philip Barbour for the Battle of the Thames campaign. William McFarland was listed as a private under Capt. Wm. Ewing's Co., Kentucky Mounted Volunteer Militia, enlisted on August 18, 1813 to run until November 17, 1813. His name was not found on the original roll but was furnished by the War Department.
