Subject: Re: Moses Robert Winder
I would love to be able to fill-in any Winder information, however, I have very little myself. My grandfather was Philip Moses Winder who was born in Springerton, IL, October 20,1893 and died in Monticello, IL on October 23, 1970. From family talk, I have gathered that Phil left home after his mother died and his father remarried. He came to central Illinois where he met and married my grandmother, Gladys Marie Foster. My dad said that Phil never really discussed his family with them. They remember very little about their grandparents. My grandfather did have several brothers and they seem to have remained in touch until their deaths. I did visit Mt. Vernon, IL several years ago and did some research at the courthouse. That is where I found Moses's marriage information. The only other thing I have found is that Joseph W. Winder was the father of Moses. His wife's name was Elizabeth Foster and they were married November 11, 1857 in Hamilton County, IL. I cannot find any other direct links to this three Winders. As you can see we have a huge job ahead of us. Any information you can pass along would be helpful. Alicia Winder.
Note: In his application for Social Security number, Phillip very clearly drew a line instead of a middle name, indicating he had no middle name as of 1950 when he submitted the application.
