- *Olive E. Ruff* Former Alliance resident Olive E. Ruff, 88, of Fayetteville, N.C., died at 10:15 p.m. Friday at Highsmith Rainey Memorial Hospital in Fayetteville following an extended illness. Mrs. Ruff taught school for 25 years in Alliance, and later taught at Knox School for 10 years. She had also been an elementary school teacher in Lakewood Schools. She was born Nov. 27, 1898 in Hanoverton to Emmett T. and Anna Grubbs Winder, and moved from Chester, W. Va., to Alliance in 1918. She had lived in Fayetteville for the past six months. Mrs. Ruff was graduated from the former Marshall College in Wheeling, W. Va. in 1917, and received a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Mount Union College in 1957. She was a 67-year member of First Presbyterian Church,, and its Circle No. 1 and Friendship Sunday School Class. She was also a member of Alliance Woman's Clug, Mount Union Woman's Club, and national, state and local retired teacher's associations, and was a 60-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 296. Mrs. Ruff was a pink lady at Alliance Community Hospital for 22 years until 1983. Her husband, Harry E., died in 1972. They were married in 1927. She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Lois E. Cahoon of Fayetteville, and several nieces and nephews. A sister and two brothers preceded her in death. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cassaday and Turkle Funeral Home with the Rev. Lynn B. Shetzer of Middle Sandy United Presbyterian Church in Homeworth officiating. Burial will be in Fairmount Memorial Park.
