Thanks Ann:
You do have Maggie Winder, of Nacogdoches, Tx., in your database. She was born Margaret E. Kirkley, in Sumter, South Carolina. She was the second child of Robert Kirkley, b. abt 1838, Northern Kershaw Co., SC. and Mary Ann Brown Kirkley, b. 1842, Sumter, SC. In abt. 1877, the family moved by wagon from Sumter, SC. to Marlin, Falls County, Texas. In abt. 1884, they moved again, this time to Nacogdoches, Nacogdoches Co. Texas, where Maggie met William Winders.
Robert is my Great Grandfather, but Mary Ann is not my Great Grandmother, having died in 1904. He remarried, in abt. 1905, to Olivia Durrett, and had my Grandfather Ralph L. Kirkley in 1906. So Maggie and Ralph L. were half brother and sister.
Maggie was the first to die of the Robert-Mary Ann offspring. She died in 1919 at 50 years of age. In my line, little is known about the Winder's and in fact, I only discovered Maggie's existence a few years ago. I have wondered if she died as a result of the influenza epidemic which swept the nation in 1918-1919?? She and Willam Winder had 8 children but I have yet to find a living descendent.
Sincerely, Kent Kirkley Dallas, Texas
