To the Swinford and Lincoln County, OK, lists: Need help with Jonathan SWINFORD, born 6 June 1852, died 5 November 1914 and buried in Wellston, Oklahoma. Married Lavina (or Lovina) Elizabeth WINDERS, born 21 May 1852. Had several children.
Three known names are Della Mae, Charles E. and Roy Daniel. Jonathan's brother, James SWINFORD, was a private with Porter's Missouri. He died 25 January, 1863, at Alton, Illinois where he was a prisoner. He is buried in the Confederate Cemetery there.

Lavina Elizabeth WINDERS married Jonathan SWINFORD in Ralls Co, Missouri circa 1876. She may have been his second wife; in fact most probably was as there children in census that were not born to Lavina.
They had nine children:
Andrew
Floyd
John Calvin
Bird
Gracie
Ethel
Della Mae
Charles E.
Roy Daniel
Jonathan was born 6 June, 1852 in Tennessee. He died 5 Nov. 1914 in OKlahoma. His tombstone shows the name Ionothan. (Old style spelling.)
It is possible than Jonathan had a brother named James.
If any of this rings a bell, please let me know.
Thanks so much for your help,
Carolyne

Jonathan SWINFORD and Lavina WINDERS are my great-grandparents. I descend from Della Mae. I have information from another researcher that says Andrew Jackson Swinford was the father of Lavina, who was Andrew's daughter from his first marriage (name of wife unknown). Andrew later married Delilah NESTLERODE. That is somewhat confirmed by family stories that Lavina's brothers and sisters were only half-brothers, etc. There are inconsistancies. Bear in mind please, that I am going on memory in this post. My info is stored on Zip disks and my Zip drive died the other day...I've been gathering and restoring what I can manually. In some census data, Lavina says she was born in Indiana and that both her parents were born there, too. But in another census, Andrew states he was born in Kentucky...and told the census takers that Lavina was born in Illinois. Jonathan and Lavina are buried in the Wellston Cemetery, Wellston, Lincoln County, Oklahoma. I have photos of the graves somewhere. There are some other Swinfords buried there, including one tombstone that says "Grandma Swinford." Since this cannot be Lavina, (who has her own tombstone which shows first name as "Lovina"), then Grandma Swinford is most likely Jonathan's mother. If you want to correspond directly, let me know.
