G'day Ann :)
[snip]
What I know is that David Horatio Winder was an artist. I think he had 5 kids, Maud Madelene Winder, My granddad William Albert Winder (an artist), Sydney Percy Winder (artist), Bertie Winder and Norman Hulme Winder. Bob says there are US Winders that link in with David Horatio, but I'm not sure who or where just yet.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to help. Cheers.
Regards,
Gaz.

We acquired a very nice seascape oil on canvas painting this spring at auction in Wethersfield CT, identified by the auctioneeer as one painted by D.H. Winder and dated 1893. The painting is 17-1/2" x 31-1/2" in a nice guilt frame. The estate it came from had a number of very nice paintings and other pieces of art (including an oriental vase that sold for $30,000!), so I have every reason to believe it was considered a quality piece. It was very well taken care of.
I believe this estate was that of someone in New Haven CT but I may be mistaken. I have asked the auctioneer for more details, but I have yet to hear back. Unfortunately, sometimes these efforts turn-up to be a dead-end, either because the auctioneer does not want to be bothered or the heirs are uninterested or do not want to risk an invasion of privacy, etc.
Attached is a Microsoft ".jpg" picture file which I downloaded from the auctioneer's on-line catalogue of the picture. It will give you a flavor for how nice it is.
I see from a art sales listing (Hislop's International Price Guide to Fine Art) that a D.H Winder painting wa also sold at auction in 2000 but there are no details of what it was, and to whom it was sold.
This listing gives D. H. Winder's birth / death dates as 1880-1920. If this is correct, he was a relatively young man when he died.
I am not sure what help I can be to you (unless the heirs of the estate have and are willing to share additional information).
However, anything you can tell me about D.H. Winder would be greatly appreciated.
Yours very truly,
Keith (and Kristine) Armour
