Joseph Palmer Winders joined the army in Westfield, Indiana. He was in Co. A, 101 regiment, Indiana Infantry. He fought in the Civil War from Aug. 11, 1862 to June 25, 1865. He returned to live in Hamilton county, Indiana and is buried in the Ridge cemetary in the north part of that county.
