      Dear Ann,
      [snip]
My ancester is Hannah (Winder) Vough Clark. She was born in late 1800 to early 1801 according to Forks Twp., Sullivan County censuses of 1850 and 1860 where she is listed as Hanah Clark and Hannah Clarke, respectively. She married _______ Vough, and had four children by him:

Abraham b. 14 Sep 1829 Warren David (my ancester) b. late 1831 to early 1832 Eliza b. 1833 near Montoursville, Lycoming County, Pa d. 5 Jun 1910 in Illinois

According to an obituary of Eliza, the father, _______ Vough, died when the children were young.

Hannah married a second time to Geoffrey Clark, and the family moved from Montoursville to Forks Twp where they had 3 children, James, Mary and Rebecca.

Eliza's obituary says that Hannah's maiden name was Winder and that her grandfather is John Winder who belonged to the German Regiment during the revolutionary war. He is supposed to have died there, leaving a family of small children. Among them his son Warren, 15 years of age, also died in the war due to a head wound.

As John Iden Winder (1707 - 1770) of Bucks Co. is often associated with the John Winder who was recruited into the German Regiment in York Co, I began looking for a connection with his family. However, some things didn't match up -- John Iden didn't die during the war and he didn't have a son Warren. I am also inclined to believe that the description in Eliza's obit. of John, his family and his death is the result of firsthand knowledge (...secondhand), rather than geanological research, which if done haphazardly, could result in Hannah being mistakenly associated with the wrong John.

So my inclination is to research this John of York County and his wife Anne to find a connection with my Hannah.

Would you have any additional information handy that could point me in a direction? Do you know any children of this John?

Many thanks in advance, and if you have no extra information, thanks for the great website!

      Sincerely,

Brian Streby ...a decendent of Hans Michael Strieby, a clockmaker from Germany, who arrived in Philadelphia having sailed on the St Andrew in 1743.
