  (Research):From: "Mary Moyars-Johnson" mamoyars@indy.net Sent: Friday, August 27, 2004 3:33 PM Subject: I have Sarah Ellen Winder's parents noted as James or John Winder and wife Sarah. Sarah Ellen was called Sallie and was born in Kentucky on 28 September 1818 and died in Washington Township, Harrison County, Indiana on 13 February 1888. Sarah and Peter were married on 24 November 1839 and had nine children , some born in Kentucky and some in Indiana. From the birth places of the children, it appears Peter and Sarah lived in Kentucky between 1848 and 1857 and returned to Indiana before late 1859. There are listed in the Washington Township, Harrison County, Indiana 1860 census. (Cynthia Burd has researched Pete's family and may have done Winders.) Peter Moyars was born 23 april 1817 and died in Harrison county 10 October 1894. You will find Moyars spelled as Moyers, Moyer, Myer, Myers, Moirs, etc. It is German and there were lots of families using those spellings in Pennsylvania and Virginia. Peter Moyers father was John who was born in Virginia and moved to Indiana; John's grandfather was Casper Moyers who moved form Pennsylvania to Virginia. Many of the Myers/Moyers families were members of "plain" churches (Mennonite, Brethern, etc) and these churches have extensive family history collections at their collges
