  Sarah and Peter had nine children: James, born in Washington township, Harrison county, Indiana on 5 September 1840; John H. born in Washington township, Harrison County Indiana on 19 November 1842; Robert W. born in Washington township Harrison County, Indiana on 13 March 1845; Martha born in Kentucky (according to the census) in 1847; Sarah J. born in Kentucky on 11 February 1851; Hester born in Kentucky in 1853; Helen born in Kentucky on New Year's Day 1856; Rebecca Alice born in Indiana in 1859; and Fannie B. (J?),. born in 1863. Peter and Sarah lived in Indiana from about 1816 until 1843 and then in Kentucky for 1848 to 1857, returning to Indiana by late 1859. The 1860 census shows Peter as a farmer living in Washington Township near New Amsterdam . It notes that Sarah cannot read or write but that their daughter Martha was attending school.(Washington Township, Harrison Co. p. 60 dwelling 495, family 476) Peter and Sallie E. were still living in Washington Township in 1870 and had accumulated $600 in real estate and $600 in personal property by the time of the 1870 census. J. J., Sarah, Hester, Rebecca, and Fanny were all living at home in 1870. Sarah died 13 February 1888 in Washington Township, Harrison County Indiana and was buried in the Goosehaven cemetery.
