  	Roy Maynard served in the U.S. Army in Germany in WW I. He was well-known for his musical abilities. He was offered a position playing banjo at the Grand Old Opry in Nashville, TN, but refused in order to stay in Todd County with his second wife, Nellie Roe (Sept. 22, 1901-June 10, 1977) and their children: James (presently lives in Guthrie), Larry (died Oct. 30, 1984, buried at Cedar Grove Cemetery), Donna (presently lives in Henderson, KY), and Mary Godwin (died March 25, 1988, buried at Cedar Grove Cemetery).

  From: Sent: Wednesday, July 04, 2001 8:48 PM My family originated in the Cumbria England area, also the area of Lake Windermere. One of the things pasted down from my Grandfather, Roy Maynard Winders, his father Edward Licurgus, and his father, John Winders(a veteran of the Civil War) was the pronouncation of our name. They said it was wind (as wind through the trees) not as winding yarn. It's really great to hear so many different Winders being found. Phyllis
