      LONG ILLNESS
      Mrs. Minnie C. Winder, 325-19th Dt., a veteran educator and music teacher active in civic affairs, died at 5 a.m. Sunday in King's Daughters' Hospital following an extended illness.
      Coming to Ashland in 1918 from her native Maysville, Mrs. Winder served as principal of Wylie Elementary School here. She also served as primary and music supervisor for the Ashland Independent District.
      A graduate of Maysville High School, she did her under-graduate work at Eastern Kentucky University and Marshall University and received her master's degree from the University of Kentucky.
      Mrs. Winder directed and produced Ashland's centennial pageant in 1954. In 1959, she was named Ashland's Woman of the Year and was listed in Who's Who in Education in 1959-60. In 1959, she wrote the five-year pageant for the Poage Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was the chapter's registrar.
      She organized Ashland's Toy Bands which involved 750 children. She also organized the "Mother Singers," first in the schools and then in various community groups.
      She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where she served as director of four choirs for 13 years. She was also active in circle work at the First Christian Church here.
      Mrs. Winder was a member of Kappa Delta Pi; a charter member and past president of Delta Kappa Gamma; past president of the Ashland Business & Professional Women, which in 1946 presented a "This is Your Life" program and established a scholarship fund in her name; the American Association of University Women; the Ashland Women's Club; the Parent-Teacher Association on local and district levels, and the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels.
      She was the daughter of the late Bruce and Essie Reed Crawford Johnson. There are no survivors.
      Funeral services will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the John Steen Funeral Home by Dr. Edward L. Tullis and the Rev. B. D. Nisbet. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Tuesday.
      Graveside rites will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Maysville Cemetery. Friends may call at the Asby-Porter Funeral Home in Maysville Wednesday.
