Notes - From "Mount Morris: Past and Present
Prof. Elbert E. Winders was principal of the Mount Morris Public School from 1894 to 1897. He was born in Mount Morris, April 14, 1861, and died Nov. 2, 1897, aged 36 years. He was educated in the Mount Morris Publich School and Rock River Seminary. He married Ella Miller, April 10, 1895. He was an accomplished musician, and the author of this book can testify as to his ability as a teacher, being a graduate under him in 1896.
According to John H Winder:
«u»«b»Elbert E. Winders «/u»«/b» was born 14 April 1861 in Ogle County, Illinois and was educated in the Mount Morris public schools and the Rock River Seminary. He was a school teacher in Forreston, Ogle County as early as 1870 and eventually became the principal of Mount Morris Public School, in which post he served from 1894 to 1897, until ill health forced him to retire. He married «u»Elizabeth E. Miller «/u», a daughter of John Mumma Miller, one of the early pioneers of Ogle County, on 10 April 1895 in Ogle County. They had been married only two years (and were childless) when he died on 1 (or perhaps 2) November 1897. He is buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Mount Morris; no information of what became of Elizabeth Miller Winders. [5, 6]
