  (Research):Robert L. Winder, Oct 2009: The trip to WVU History Collection revealed that the Samuel Winder who appears in the potful of old Ohio County, VA microfilmed records now held at WVU did NOT reside in that county in 1828, I believe it was, in "this county" [Ohio County, VA]. So it appears to me that he did move on into Ohio in the 1820's, when he left Fayette Co., PA. According to Deven Lewis: He died at the home of Catherine Jackaway's sister, Mary Wheatley near Short Creek, now West Virginia. Deven 8/27/2012 That Samuel Winder and Catherine Jackaway were indeed the parents of Robert Jackaway Winder and Lafayette Winder is proved through the diary of Catherine's niece who goes into the extensive history of the Jackaways and reference's where everyone was when and who married whom, including the fact that Catherine married Hiram McCoy after the death of Samuel, names all the kids - and the diary gives Samuel's death location. I also have a copy of the estate record of Hiram McCoy which reflects that RJ Winder was owed money for funds he had extended to Hiram; the executor was Lafayette Winder. Anyway, I'll try to get all the information simplified. There are a few facts that make it impossible for Samuel, father of Lafayette and RJ, to be the same Samuel as the one married to Burnsides. Also, we have the estate record of Marsham Winder (brother of James G) listing all of his siblings, many of whom went back to Fayette Co. and married people in the Redstone area - I've got proof on that. A few facts surrounding Marsham and James G. make it appear that a Samuel Winder may have been the father of some or all of that group - a Samuel who was in Bullitt/Hardin, KY in 1801 - a few years after I found a Samuel Winder in the Fayette Co., PA Militia who was serving with the Brashears who went to Bullitt/Hardin, KY.
