Notes - Faythe Winder Goede wrote, in a letter to Robert L. Winder, on 5 Dec. 1983: "...My parents were Merrick Lee Winder (born 16 Aug 1887 at Trout Run, PA, died 13 January 1938 at Britton, So. Dak) and Estelle Myrtle Hildreth (born 24 Mar 1898 in Marshall Co., So. Dak, died 9 July 1975 at Britton, So. Dak). They were married Aug. 5, 1919 in Britton, soon after Dad returned from France in W. W. I. He apprenticed at Corning, NY Glass Works at a very young age and used to take off in the summer and work in the harvest fieldes in the midwest, and that is how he met my mother. They returned to Corning, and there is where I and my next sister were born - but the family returned to Dakota and farmed there until the sand storms and Depression wiped them out.
...I am the oldest of 9 children - raised in S. Dak. during the Depression, and my Dad died the January after I graduated from high school. Later I went to Minneapolis, Minn and took a beauty course - later owning 2 shops there. After the war Herb and I were married and four years later along came Jo Ann, our only child. She is now married to a Colo. native and has two girls, 7 and 5."
