- (Research):Mary is found in most records as Mary E. or Mary Ellen. The handwritten marriage record of Mary to William Taylor Dent reflects her name as "Mary Ellin Winders." In the Will of Faithy Parks, among the beneficiaries is "Mary Elvira Winders", believed to be the daughter of John P. Winders, who was the executor of Faithy's will. We believe Mary "Ellen" and Mary "Elvira" are the same person because of the crossover of Winders and Dent records. On April 21, 1838, A.C. Winders (aka Adam C. Winders, believed to be a brother of John P. Winders) was the witness to the will of Ann Dent (see rootsweb.ancestry.com/~auntjean/dent/archive/ncro002w.htm). Ann references in her will her son, Thomas H. Dent (Thomas Hatch Dent). In the Will of Thomas Hatch Dent, Josiah Dent is referenced as Thomas' son; Josiah was the father of William Taylor Dent. Mary's sister Elizabeth had married David Green Holobaugh; both couples, along with the Gibbens, had moved to Lawrence County, Arkansas. In the 1880 census, Elizabeth and David Holobaugh's son, James Holobaugh, is living two households below the household of widowed Mary Dent in Black River, Lawrence County, Arkansas.
The following is a biography of the William Taylor Dent and Mary Winders Dent family as researched by Lois Brady (note, Giles is "Josiah Giles Dent"):
