- Daniel Winders Dies Thursday After Brief Illness
Daniel E. Winders. well known and respected resident of Sycamore community for many years, passed away quietly at his home Thursday morning, shortly after arising. He had been ailing for some time and during the past three weeks had failed quite rapidly. He was one of a family of twleve children and was born on August 28, 1860, in Hagerstown, Md. When but a boy of nine, he came to Illinois with his family and for years resided in Polo. At the age of 19, he came to Sycamore, joining his brother, Samuel, in a local fruit and vegetable business. In 1886 he became a commercial salesman, but in 1905 reestablished here with his brother. Until 1932 he continued in the business, ten years of which he was sole proprietor. In later years, he clerked at Peterson Bros. Grocery, retiring from active work but a few years ago.
On May 26, 1886, he was united in marriage to Amy E. Culver of Sycamore, the wedding taking place at the bride's parental home at 440 Park Avenue, where thy have since resided. To this union was born four children, all of whom are living: Frank L. Winders of Chicago, Mrs. Boyd (Erma) Wright of San Diego, Calif.; Mrs. William (Genevieve) Organ of Sycamore and Mrs. Theron (Pauline) Bushnell of Janesville, Wisconsin. Through his many years of serving the public in Sycamore, he was always courteous and friendly. He was very devoted to his home and family and had been a member of the local Methodist church for years. His genial presence will be missed in the home, also in the community. An outstanding event in the lives of Mr. and Mrs. Winders was the elaborate celebration of their Golden Wedding anniversary, almost twelve years ago. For a man of his years, Mr. Winders had been exceptionally active and keen.
Left to mourn his passing besides his wife and four children are five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, also a brother, B.F. Winders of St. Paul, Minn., and a sister, Mrs. Carrie Barnhizer of Polo. Final rites are to be accorded Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the Kebil Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayne Leighty of the local Methodist church in charge. Interment will take place in the Ohio Grove cemetery.
