- Frank Winders Wounded
Frank L. Winders has written to his parents Mr. and Mrs. Dan Winders of this city a letter received on Thursday in which the young soldier says that he has been wounded in France. In the letter which was dated July 2, he says he was knocked out and slightly wounded, but was being well taken care of and expected to soon be back on the line. This well known Sycamore boy went with about 100 other DeKalb County men, 13 of whom were from Sycamore, to Camp Grant [Rockford, Illinois] on September 20 last [1917]. After training there he was assigned to Camp Greene, South Carolina, with Charles Blagden and John Quinn of Sycamore. There he was separated from the other Sycamore boys and assigned to Co. A, 59th Infantry, and May 3 last sailed for France, where he has been doing gallant service for his country.

- Mr. and Mrs. Dan Winders received yesterday a letter from their son Frank L. Winders, in which he said that he was sailing Nov. 11, the day the armistice was signed, from a port in France, invalided home. He was shot in the hip. He was apparently badly injured, for he has been in a hospital for three months. This week also the parents received a letter which had been delayed in which the old story, since often refuted, was repeated in a notation on the envelope that Frank L. Winders had been killed in action in France. The parents had even received from the War Department insurance papers to fill out on the supposition that the young man had been killed. He is expected to be in a hospital in this country for some time before he returns home.
