John G. Winter was born in Cavetown district on the old Winter homestead, March 5., 1813, and was a son of John Winter, who emigrated from Germany to America when he was but twelve years of age. John G. Winter secured a common school education and the occupation of his life has been that of a farmer. He married, February 9, 1837, Susan, daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth (Huyett) Tritle, who had also the following children: Jacob; Lewis; Elizabeth, and Margaret. John G. Winter and wife had issue: Annie E.. born December 18, 1837; David T., born June 13. 1840; I)aniel J., Amanda C., born October 24, 1844; Lewis T., born October 3, 1847; John G., born December 17, 1849; Henry, born October 9, 1852 Thomas B., born July 5, 1855; George C., born August 21, 1858. John G. Winter was a member of the German Reformed Church, and his wife, Susan, of the Lutheran Church. [3]
