Garland Glenn Winder
Passed peacefully at home on January 21st, 2016 at the age of 76. Gar
was born in Woodward, Oklahoma, on June 25th, 1939 to Fred and Florence
Winder. They moved to Washington in 1951, where Gar graduated from
Franklin Pierce High School. A talented athlete, Gar played baseball and
basketball at Central Washington University, and taught and coached
junior high students in the Puyallup School District for 30 years. He
spent many summers as a berry farmer and commercial and sport fisherman.
In retirement, Gar enjoyed golfing, fishing Clark's Creek in his
backyard, and giving the kids tractor rides on his 1947 Farmall Cub. He
especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, of
whom he was very proud. We will especially miss Gar's goofy humor that
brought so much laughter to family and friends. Gar is survived by his
wife of 40 years, Beverly, children Shelley Winder-Yost (John), Sonya
Winder, Ami Strain (Eric), and Brady Winder (Adrian), grandchildren
Caleb, Eli, Kiya, Jeremy, Dillon, Aliya, Collin, and Carys, sister Kay
Alsbury, brother Art, and extended family. He was preceded in death by
his daughter Shannon. A family celebration will be in the spring. |
