Obituary
Martha Carter was born February 13, 1833, departed this life December 3, 1923, aged 90 years, 9 months and 21 days.
At the age of ten years she with her father and mother, four brothers and six sisters came to Iowa from Ohio and settled in Pleasant Township. Here she grew to young womanhood and on August the 4, 1853, she was united in marriage to John Henry Carter. To this children (sic) six children were born. Aminca M. Smith, 302 McPherson St., Ottumwa, S.D.Carter, 422 South Ransom St., Ottumwa, Inda M. Humble, Bladensburg, Iowa, O.A.Carter, Pleasant Township, Iowa, C.E.Carter, Rasonor, Iowa, Minnie Orndoff, 315 West 2nd. St., Ottumwa.
On February 3, 1892, the death angel entered this family circle and called and husband and father. She has witnessed the work of the Master until all her brothers and sisters of the happy family were called home except one sister, Mrs. Susan Yeanny of Taylor Co., Iowa. Besides the immediate family there remains 31 grand children and 81 great grand children, besides a host of friends. At an early age she united with the Church of the Brethren, near Libertyville, Iowa and remained a constant believer in her savior.
